A “belvedere” is an architectural structure allowing for a “fine view,” hence the Belvedere House that later became a focal point of the DCU St. Patrick’s campus. As this publication offers a fine view of new writing in Ireland, it seemed an apt name.

The Belvedere Literary Journal features a collection of prose and poetry from both emerging and established writers. This dialogue between generations, identities, and backgrounds displays Ireland’s complex and ever-changing literary milieu and captures the array of talent in the DCU creative writing master’s program.
A major goal of this publication is to break down barriers for emerging writers, allowing them to receive visibility, engagement with the industry, and publication alongside experienced professionals. This prepares a new wave of writers to not only enter the publishing scene, but also to approach their career with a more knowledgeable perspective – and even bring this knowledge back to their communities and begin their own publications.
We plan to organise publishing events in the 2025-2026 academic year that will be open to the public and educate attendees on the details of the publishing process and the broader Irish writing scene. Stay tuned!
